Build a household watch list (the healthy-living way)

EWG Premium-style preference filters are powerful. Here’s how to build watches that actually get used at the shelf.

Notepad checklist beside pantry items on a kitchen table

Preference filters are one of the best ideas in modern ingredient apps: show me what my household cares about. The failure mode is a 40-item avoid list nobody can remember in aisle three.

Start from real friction

  • What caused a return or a rash last year?
  • What does a clinician already restrict?
  • What does your household argue about every shop?

Cap it at five

Five watches is plenty for a soft launch habit. Promote one to “hard avoid” only when it’s medical or repeatedly problematic. Demote the rest to “nice to notice.”

Revisit quarterly

Kids grow. Seasons change. A winter lotion watch may not matter in summer sunscreen season. Update the list when the cart changes.

IngreView bias: watches + living catalog beat a universal fear score. Your household is the unit of design.

Guides: allergy & preferences, essays: package-first allergens.

Educational context only — not medical, dietary, or allergy advice. Always verify allergens and safety-critical information on the product package and with qualified professionals when needed.
